Juniper Level Botanic Garden: The New Gig

The weather was shifting the morning I drove towards the next stage in my life.

I'd driven the stretch between Belmont and Raleigh many, many times during my time at N.C. State. Despite the familiarity, the clouds seemed to change the scenery. My stop at home in Belmont was brief considering how long I'd been away, but most welcome.

And then, just as I had come, I was back on the road to Raleigh, N.C. to begin my new position as garden curator at Juniper Level Botanic Garden. (For those of you who know it, this is the Garden Plant Delights Nursery is associated with....)

I recommend a quick perusal of the JLBG website to gain a sense of the scope and philosophy of the Garden. The collections are quite extensive.... conservatively more than 22,000 different taxa (type fo plant). That is VERY impressive for an area just a little more than 20 acres. Tony Avent founded the Garden in 1988 with a passion for interesting plants and a desire to share them with the world. To speak bluntly, it is really cool to be a part of that.

Tony has been kind to let me stay in the house on the Garden's property while I get settled and took time to show me around the Gardens as soon as I arrived that Sunday afternoon two weeks ago.... and it's been non-stop ever since.
